Domhnall Gleeson Gives Update On Season 2 of the Peacock Hit Comedy Series THE PAPER

Actor Domhnall Gleeson is making a splash this week at Sundance Film Festival promoting his new film The Incomer, but he sat down with Deadline to chat about all the irons he has in the fire, and that includes his The Office spinoff series The Paper.

The Peacock comedy, in which he plays Toledo Truthteller newspaper editor-in-chief Ned Sampson, is being prepped for Season 2. Gleeson said of his upcoming return to set:

“I’ve got the haircut, so I’m getting back into [Ned mode]. I had a perm in our film. So, I had a real-life perm, and the perm has now been cut out so I can go back and play Ned.

“We’re reading scripts, and they’re really exciting. And I’m incredibly excited to get dubbed back in. It’s really nice to do something silly about journalism, which is a very serious thing.”

He went on to add:

“I think if we were doing a big paper, you would be getting into all sorts of stuff that would be difficult to talk about in any way that was funny.

“The fact that it’s a really local place, you can find the small things that mean bigger things. And in a way, that’s always the news that really matters, is the one that’s just on your street. So yeah, we’re loving it. I’m very lucky to be a part of it.”

The day before the mockumentary sitcom premiered in September, Peacock gave the Greg Daniels/Michael Koman-created series an early Season 2 renewal. Shortly after, the show was given an NBC broadcast run.

Featuring the same doc crew from The Office (2005-’13), The Paper follows Ned Sampson as he takes over the struggling Toledo Truthteller and transforms its oddball volunteer news staff into an impactful team of local journalists.
