Donald Glover To Star in and Produce Movie Based on SPIDER-MAN Villain The Hypno-Hustler Villain
Fans have been wanting to see Donald Glover get his shot at a Spider-Man movie for years! Well, he’s finally getting it… sort of. Glover is set to star in and produce the movie for Sony Pictures and it will be based on the obscure Spider-Man villain, Hypno-Hustler.
The character was created by Bill Mantlo, the writer who also created Rocket Racoon, and artist Frank Springer. The character is described as “a jive-talking black soul Disco singer who uses his goggles and evil boots of death to hypnotize music lovers, alongside his backup band, The Mercy Killers.”
Hypno-Hustler first appeared in Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man No. 24 in 1978. His real name is Antoine Delsoin, and he “used music to hypnotize people at concerts into giving him their money and valuables. He used a mix tape in a boom box to play the music, along with his guitar.”
Antoine was living in the streets until he was taken in by a club owner. Eventually, Antoine met three woman who could amplify his hypnosis powers by singing. He hypnotized them into joining him, and called them the Mercy Killers.
Hypno-Hustler is considered on of Spider-Man’s worst villains, so it’s hilarious that he’s actually going to be getting his own movie! But, Glover is a hell of a talented guy and I think he’s got some fun plans for this disco Spider-Man villain! I’m hoping that it’s a period piece set in the 70s.
The film is being written by Myles Murphy, the son of actor and comedian Eddie Murphy.
