Donald Glover Wants A Standalone Lando Movie To Be Like "FRASIER In Space"
Is Solo: A Star Wars Story a good film? Sure, but what if instead of smuggling and hair-raising adventure Lando had a talk-radio show in Cloud City and spent his days rubbing shoulders with the high-society in town with his brother and retired police officer father? Ok, maybe Donald Glover doesn't want all of that in a Lando movie, but he did liken his vision for a Lando film similar to that of Frasier (via Entertainment Weekly Radio):
It would be cool to see, like, Frasier in Space. Like, a high-end guy in space. All of these characters are very specific and they have very specific points of view, so it’s always going to be fun to see them traveling around to a planet that is the opposite of what they’re used to … And all of that seems like it would be fun to write, for sure.
I'll be honest, I don't hate that idea. It sounds similar to a tale you'd read in a Star Wars novel, which by and large are typically solid. Glover's idea sounds wild, but with Star Wars films happening at least every other year until the end of time, they're going to need to switch up the formula to keep things fresh. Glover's pitch is certainly one way to do it, and considering his rising star power at the moment, I think Disney would want to work with him in order to keep him on board as Lando. How do you feel about his idea?
