Donald Glover's ATLANTA Seasons 3 and 4 Will Start Shooting Early Next Year
Donald Glover‘s fantastic, Emmy Award-winning FX series Atlanta is finally ramping up for production! The third season of the series was supposed to be released last year, but production had to be pushed back due to scheduling conflicts, and then COVID-19 hit, which delayed it even further.
Since the series launched Glover and the rest of his talented cast, Brian Tyree Henry, Zazie Beetz, and Lakeith Stanfield, started getting movie offers from all over the place. They got super busy, so I imagine it’s not easy getting the gang back together. But, according to head of FX John Landgraf, they were able to work out the scheduling and the gang is getting back together!
Atlanta Seasons 3 and 4 will shoot back-to-back in early 2021. During a recent press conference, Landgraf explained:
“One of the things that’s been kind of an unexpected boon from COVID-19 is that writers have had a lot of time to write. Donald Glover and his intrepid team of partners have written everything for seasons three and four. One [season] shoots primarily in Europe, one primarily in Atlanta. The intent is to shoot them all at one time, essentially back to back. However, the availability has been pushed back because of COVID. That had to do with our sense of when we could return to work safely and then we had to coordinate all of the cast for what is shooting two seasons at once. Heartbreakingly for me, it has been pushed back a little bit.”
It sucks that fans of the series have had to wait so long for new episodes, but at least there is forward momentum on the next two seasons and there will be new episodes to watch at some point in the future. I’ll be looking forward to seeing how the crazy story for these characters will play out!
