Don't Expect Rian Johnson's New STAR WARS Trilogy To Be an Adaption of KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC

When the news broke that Rian Johnson would be developing a new Star Wars trilogy set in a different corner of the universe, a lot of fans hoped that maybe we would see something from the video game Knights of the Old Republic. Well, for those of you who hoped that would be the case, I've got some bad news for you. Johnson isn't planning on adapting anything from it. Even though he loved the game, he is looking at focusing on creating something new and original. During a recent interview with Mashable, the filmmaker said:

"Oh, [the fans] love Knights of the Old Republic. I played that game when it first came out and it was like, god, I loved it. Yeah, that’s a fantastic game. And I understand it, the instinct to automatically go to something that you know and love, that you’ve already seen. To me, what’s really fun is the notion of what new stuff are we gonna see, what new stories can we tell?"

Johnson still doesn't know what this new trilogy is going to be yet, and if he does, he's not telling anyone. One thing we do know is that he is going to dive into uncharted Star Wars territory and that's freakin' exciting! There are endless possibilities to play with and I think it's great that Johnson isn't going to use any preexisting stories or characters in his new trilogy. Whatever he ends up giving us is going to be original and this is exactly what I was hoping Lucasfilm would end up doing one day.

Lucasfilm has given Johnson full creative freedom to craft this new story with new characters and new adventures. I can't wait to see what comes of it!
