Don't Expect OBI-WAN KENOBI to Include Any MANDALORIAN Character Crossovers

There have been a lot of rumors spreading on the internet and social media that Lucasfilm’s series Obi-Wan Kenobi will feature character crossovers from The Mandalorian. Well, don’t expect that to happen! In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lucasfilm president and producer Kathleen Kennedy and Obi-Wan director Deborah Chow were asked about the crossover rumors and Chow said:

“The strongest connective tissue for us is to the prequels, because that's where our characters are coming from and that's where their stories started. So, really, the prequels are the most connected to our series."

That makes complete sense as The Mandalorian is set years later, five years after the events of The Return of the Jedi. While there are some characters out there roaming the galaxy, they aren’t really connected to this Star Wars story. But, obviously, we’ll see a good amount of characters from Lucasfilm’s Star Wars animated shows! Grogu is out there as well, but who knows if we’ll see him.

Chow also talked about bringing back Luke Skywalker's Uncle Owen (Joel Edgerton) and Aunt Beru (Bonnie Piesse) for the series, saying:

"I was so excited to bring them back. Part of what made the series feel very special is that we were bringing back not only Ewan and Hayden, but people like Joel and Bonnie from 20 years ago and getting to reunite as the same characters."

The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

The series also stars Ewan McGregor, reprising his role as the iconic Jedi Master, and also marks the return of Hayden Christensen in the role of Darth Vader. It also stars Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.

Obi-Wan Kenobi will be released on Disney+ on May 25th.
