Don't Hate On Ryan Gosling For BLADE RUNNER He's Perfect

I know it's hard to talk about anything other than Star Wars Episode VII and Batman vs. Superman Dawn of Justice, but can we all just take a moment and appreciate how awesome it's going to be seeing Ryan Gosling in the Blade Runner series? While many of you shared my enthusiasm for the role, I was shocked to see a fair bit of hate coming from our readers. Here are some of the top comments from yesterdays post on the site.

"I hope he's a replicant and not the protagonist, otherwise I'm not cool with this."

"I like the idea of Gosling in Blade Runner 2. He acts like a robot already LOL"

"Gosling. He's not an actor."

"I just hope this time he eats his cereal!"

Wait, what?

Right. Well, simply put, we all know the stigma of Gosling, but I'm here to tell you, 2004 The Notebook Gosling is not 2015 Gosling.

Here's 2004...

Here's 2015...

How you can think any differently after Drive, The Place Beyond The Pines, and Only God Forgives is beyond me. Hell, Only God Forgives is written and almost shot in the same tone as the original Blade Runner. Both focus a lot on cinematography, the protagonist is mainly quiet, and you leave both wondering what the f*** happened.

One of the things I really like about Gosling is he can give a lot of intensity with just a look. The faces he makes are the same type that you see before you think the person you're looking at may legitimately kill someone. You know who else is known for his strong glares and presence?

I mean, hell, let's be honest, this film is one big intense stare after the next. Mind you, it's one of my favorite films of all time (my author tag on classic GT used to be in the font from the title), but Blade Runner's success comes mainly from its sweeping visuals, captivating story, and intensity. If ever there were to be a film to push some pretty boy actor who can look tough, naysayers c'mon. Gosling is essentially at the point in his career Ford was back when he initially took the role, and we all know more likely than not he's going to be a replicant.

I'll go on the record to say that while a replicant lead would be cool, I'd be just as interested to see him in the human role. I might be in a much smaller majority on that one, but I'll put it out there on the web to take the bullet if it tanks. Something tells me Gosling is a great fit for this sequel, however, and we aren't looking at another Colin Farrell Total Recall fiasco.
