DON'T TELL MOM THE BABYSITTER'S DEAD Remake Teaser Trailer Featuring June Squibb and Nicole Richie

A remake of the 1991 classic Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead is in the works, and actresses Nicole Richie (Chuck, Bless This Mess) and June Squibb (Nebraska, Thelma) are leading the ensemble including Jermaine Fowler (Superior Donuts), comic Ms. Pat, Olympian Gus Kenworthy, and newcomers Simone Joy Jones, Donielle Tremaine Hansley, Miles Fowler, Iantha Richardson and Tyriq Withers.

Like the original film, “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead follows 17-year-old girl Tanya (Jones), who plans to vacation in Europe with her friends before heading to college in the fall. But her mom (Ms. Pat) decides to go to a wellness retreat in Thailand, so Tanya is forced to stay home with her siblings. When — as the title suggests — their elderly babysitter (Squibb) unexpectedly dies, Tanya gets a job working for an ambitious woman named Rose (Ritchie). As she juggles work, family and a complicated romance, Tanya navigates adulthood at the cost of her last summer of freedom.”

Wade Allain-Marcus directed the reboot from a script by Ted Lasso writer Chuck Hayward. Iconic Events Releasing will debut the film exclusively in cinemas on April 12. It was produced with BET+ and will land on the streaming service at a later date.

The original film, starring Christina Applegate, Joanna Cassidy and Josh Carles, was directed by Stephen Herek and written by Neil Landau and Tara Ison. It wasn’t a critical or commercial smash, grossing $25 million against a $10 million budget. But it’s become a cult favorite in the following decades.

I loved the original movie, and this one seems like it might actually be a fun update. Check out the teaser from the new film below, and let us know what you think!
