Doug Jones Turned Down the Opportunity to Be in the HELLBOY Reboot
Original Hellboy actor Doug Jones was actually offered a role in the upcoming Hellboy reboot, but he ended up turning down the opportunity. Jones talked about this in a recent interview with THR and explained that he was too busy with Star Trek: Discovery to take on a smaller cameo role the film.
"There was a chance that a cameo might have happened, but not as things progressed. Reboot means recasting, and I'm told this first reboot does not have anybody in it from the original film. I received an offer to do a cameo, but I was deeply immersed in Star Trek: Discovery when that offer came in, so I couldn't do it."
It sounds like he would have been a good sport and done it if time permitted, but it didn’t happen, and it’s probably for the best.
As you know, Jones took on the role of Abe Sapien in director Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army. He also voiced the character in two straight-to-video Hellboy animated films that were set between the live-action films.
I’m a big fan of Jones, and he is an incredibly nice guy. While it’s cool that director Neil Marshall and the creative team wanted him to appear in the film, it’s kinda pointless to give him a cameo role.
