Doug Liman Set To Direct Tom Cruise's Outer Space Movie

Director Doug Liman will be joining Tom Cruise in outer space! The filmmaker, who is best known for Swingers, American Made and Edge of Tomorrow, will direct the first movie ever in space, which will be set on NASA’s will The International Space Station.

I loved the work that Cruise and Liman did with Edge of Tomorrow, so it’s cool to see them team up again on this epic new project that will boldly take the filmmakers where no filmmaker has ever gone before. It turns out that Cruise and Liman have been working together on making this project happen all along. Liman has even already written a first draft of the script.

The news comes right before Elon Musk’s Space X, in partnership with NASA, are set to launch the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Florida carrying two American astronauts at the Kennedy Space Center. This is said to be a historic rocket “born from a groundbreaking public-private partnership that will put the U.S. back in the business of human spaceflight for the first time in a long time.”

Everyone involved with the production who will be going to space will have to go through “an unprecedented pre-production that will involve training to be able to withstand an outer space flight” Deadline also says that “in no uncertain terms these guys are serious and hopeful this can happen in the very near future.”

There’s no word on what the story for the film will tell, but I’m super excited to see what comes of it! This whole project is both insane and awesome!
