Dragons Rule in LEGACY OF DESTRUCTION for YU-GI-OH! TCG and Additional News

Let’s talk about Yu-Gi-Oh! There’s a bit of Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game news that I’ve neglected to share and Konami was kind enough to send out a box of Legacy of Destruction for me to open.

First, the news. Back in March, Konami announced The Infinite Forbidden, a new booster set launching in July. The pack will have new cards for Exodia fans including a new Fusion monster that can get lots of attack points, has a free Spell/Trap negate it seems, and will search Exodia Spell/Trap cards for you.

There will also be a new theme involving “tablet” monsters that play like Spell cards and then Special Summon via Life Points. Basically, a reverse Crystal Beast but the idea harkens back to the Ancient Egypt duels that fans saw in the Duel Monsters anime.

This theme will have a Spell card that will let you do the Special Summons without paying Life Points and it is used to summon the new Exodia Fusion. Sounds like a possibly fun gimmick deck, but I wouldn’t expect to see it much at tournaments.

There will be 100 new cards and a “special card” that will only be available as a Quarter Century Secret Rare for a total of 101. The Infinite Forbidden will release on July 17 and include nine cards per pack (MSRP: $4.49) with the following rarity breakdown:

  • 10 Secret Rares

  • 14 Ultra Rares

  • 26 Super Rares

  • 50 Commons

  • 24 of these cards will also be available as a Quarter Century Secret Rare in addition to the aforementioned “special card”

Second, the team revealed more information for the 2024 tin. The 25th Anniversary Tin: Dueling Mirrors will release on September 20 with an MSRP of $21.99. Inside, you will find 3 Mega-Packs with a Quarter Century Secret Rare guaranteed in each pack. I’m not going to lie, the tin looks sleek with Yami Yugi and Seto Kaiba back to back like that on silver. It is clean! Unfortunately, the tin will have 400 cards meaning it is very bloated, but what’s new. That said, each Mega-Pack will contain 1 Quarter Century Secret Rare, 1 Prismatic Secret Rare, 3 Ultra Rares, and 8 Commons (3/3/9/24 per tin). The cards will be from “a dozen recent booster sets” such as Age of Overlord, Amazing Defenders, Cyberstorm Access, Duelist Nexus, Maze of Memories, Photon Hyernova, Power of the Elements, Wild Survivors, and more. There will also be brand-new alt art cards for Dark Magician Girl, Harpie’s Feather Duster, Raigeki, and Red-Eyes Black Dragon. The press release mentions that the 16 cards featured on the sides of the tins will be Quarter Century Secret Rare cards and there are 34 other cards included in the Quarter Century Secret Rare cards pool. Unfortunately, we have not been shown the sides of the tin, so we don’t know what cards to expect. I think Diabellstar the Black Witch and the Snake-Eyes cards are strong contenders personally as well as S:P LIttle Knight (man those reprints will be a blessing!). What other cards do you expect to be in that slot?

The other news is related to the World Championship 2024. To celebrate it being hosted in the United States this year, the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG team is releasing a commemorative game mat and card sleeve set featuring the prize card, Grandopolis, the Eternal Golden City, from when the World Championship was held in Las Vegas in 2013. These accessories will be available solely from Original Tournament Stores starting September 7 and cost $16.99 for the game mat and $9.99 for the pack of 100 card sleeves.

Now onto the really fun part. Konami was kind enough to send me a box of the new Legacy of Destruction core booster set. This set has a lot that I think duelists will be playing around with for a couple of months. First, there’s more support for Snake-Eyes/Sinful Spoils/Diabellstar. There’s also the new Ragnaraika archetype which uses Insect, Plant, and Reptile-type monsters to go into Link plays. In addition, there’s the Shining Sarcophogas cards which are themed after famous Yugi cards like Gandora, Silent Magician, and Silent Swordsman. There are some other new cards for various archetypes like Gold Pride and Ancient Gear, but the one getting the most attention are the Tenpai Dragon/Sangen cards. These Dragons do everything in the Battle Phase and I know some people are already sick of seeing them. To be fair, they’re relatively affordable with most pieces being Commons and the most expensive card from the set is Tenpai Dragon Paidra at about $20. There is Trident Dragion which many use in the deck and it is $100+ right now, but hopefully a reprint is coming in Rarity Collection II? Overall, I think this set is going to have people cooking for a while. The Tenpai Dragon are the obvious early winners, but I wouldn’t be surprised if something else came from Legacy of Destruction. You can purchase your own Legacy of Destruction packs now with an MSRP of $4.49 and the following rarity breakdown:

  • 10 Secret Rares

  • 14 Ultra Rares

  • 26 Super Rares

  • 50 Commons

  • 24 of these cards will also be available as a Quarter Century Secret Rare in addition to a “special card” that is available only in this rarity.
