DreamWorks Developing Film Adaptation of Michael Crichton's MICRO

Jurassic World's insane box office returns mean that studios are once again looking to mine the works of Jurassic Park author Michael Crichton for film adaptations. THR reports that DreamWorks has acquired the rights to Micro, the late author's final novel that was posthumously released in 2011 (and completed by Richard Preston).

Discovered on the author's computer after he passed away, Micro tracks "a group of graduate students lured to Hawaii to work for a mysterious biotech company — only to find themselves miniaturized and cast out into the rain forest, with nothing but their scientific expertise and wits to protect them." Sounds like DreamWorks is hoping that Ant-Man is a success also, just to prepare modern audiences for the idea of seeing people shrunk down to microscopic size.

Crichton, who died in 2008, has written many books that have been fodder for films over the years, ranging from Westworld (which is getting its own HBO revamp as a star-studded TV series) to Rising Sun, Sphere, Congo, Timeline, and more. What do you think about Micro? It certainly has potential, and with mega-producer Frank Marshall producing the film, it seems to be in good hands at this stage of the game.
