DRIVE Director Nicolas Winding Refn Would Direct a BATGIRL Movie if He Was Asked

Nicolas Winding Refn, the director of Drive, Only God Forgives, and Neon Demon, is currently prepping his next film project, but he is also interested in branching out into other genres like superhero, and one particular project he’d be interested in taking on is Batgirl for DC Studios.

Now, as you know, a Batgirl movie was already made and then scrapped by Warner Bros. for a tax write-off. That movie will never be released, so there is still an opportunity for Refn to make his own Batgirl movie.

Back in 2016, Refn expressed his interest in a Batgirl movie saying: "You know the one I want to do? I want to make Batgirl". He was recently asked about this possibility by THR, and this was his response:

“Well, let me put it like this: Sometimes the idea is more interesting than the reality. Sitting around the table talking about remaking Logan’s Run is probably more fun than remaking it or Barbarella, for that matter.

“But I think I never turned down anything. I just had meetings with everyone but never really materialized, none of these projects became a real reality. But the illusion is always more exciting than the actual bones of it and, at the end of the day, I’ve always found if I can make my own projects that define myself, that is more satisfying.

“But that’s maybe because I haven’t found the right project. I mean, sure I’ll make Batwoman, or Batgirl, whatever it’s called, if it came my way.”

The big question is when James Gunn and Peter Safran are ready to move forward with a new Batgirl movie, will they actually approach Refn to at least talk about the possibility of his involvement?

I would actually really like to see how Refn would handle a Batgirl movie. What do you think?
