DRIVE's Nicolas Winding Refn Will Direct a 10 Episode Crime Thriller TOO OLD TO DIE YOUNG
Drive, Only God Forgives, and Neon Demon director Nicolas Winding Refn is teaming up with Amazon Studios to develop a new crime thriller called Too Old To Die Young. Refn will direct all ten episodes of the series and co-write it with Ed Brubaker (Westworld).
The series explores the criminal underbelly of Los Angeles. It's described as being in "a similar vein to Refn’s Pusher trilogy, which looked at Danish criminals caught up in the drug trade. It explores various characters’ existential journeys from being killers to becoming samurai’s in the city of angels."
Refn is an interesting director who makes very unconventional films. Whether you like his stuff or not, when you go see his movies, audiences are certainly met with an interesting experience. Bringing his storytelling and filmmaking style to a series like this will prove to be fascinating.
Too Old To Die Young will start shooting in Los Angeles this fall, so I guess we can expect to see it premiere sometime in 2018. According to Variety, Amazon and Refn are looking at several big name stars to join the series. Refn has a wish list and there are already offers out to three lead male roles. The report doesn't reveal who they are, but I imagine one of them is Ryan Gosling.
I'm curious to see what Refn is planning for this series.
