Warner Bros. revealed last week that they are going to be releasing their entire 2021 slate in theatres as well as on HBO Max. This was exciting news to fans who are unable to get to the theatres, as the studio’s slate for next year is pretty exciting. One of the films that fans are most looking forward to is Dune. The movie is the latest adaptation of the 1965 sci-fi novel written by Frank Herbert.

The author is no longer living, so he will not be able to critique the film based on his work, but his son, Brian Herbert, was pretty involved in the process, and he talked about it in a recent interview with Inverse:

“I was very impressed by the trailer, and I was thrilled to actually be on the movie set in Budapest last year, where my wife and I watched the filming of several scenes. This is a really big movie, a major project that will forever be considered the definitive film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic novel. Fans are going to love this movie. Denis Villeneuve is the perfect director to do Dune.”

That is enough to keep our hopes buoyed for now for sure. I can’t imagine that there is anyone else as familiar with the material as Brian Herbert, and if he is seeing greatness from this film, then that gets me pretty excited for it too. Here’s the film’s synopsis:

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Dune is currently slated to hit theaters and HBO Max on October 1, 2021. Are you excited for the new adaptation?
