DUNGEONS & DRAGONS Revises Three Playtest Subclasses in Latest Unearthed Arcana

Dungeons & Dragons has released some revised subclasses available to playtest in a new Unearthed Arcana. These subclasses have all been available in previous options under different names. The Phantom is a subclass for Rogues that used to be called the Revived, the Genie Warlock was the Noble Genie, and the Order of Scribes was once the Archivist for Wizards.

The Phantom is pretty cool with abilities like dealing damage to secondary targets or stealing the life from your victims. Yeah, after things die around you, you can basically create a horcrux that makes it harder for you to die and you can have a number up to your proficiency bonus. It’s a fairly interesting feature in my opinion.

The Genie is a new patron for Warlocks to form pacts with. Your genie gives you some different bonuses depending on what kind of genie you have such as potentially adding bonus damage of different types. Oh, you can also go inside your genie’s vessel and hang out there. Eventually, you can even bring some friends with you! Eventually, you can even make wishes that let you cast spells from any spell list up to level 6 spells.

Become even more of a bookworm wizard as a member of the Order of Scribes. You can summon a magical quill that cuts the gold and time costs of copying spells in half and writes without you needing to supply ink. You can also use your spellbook as a focus, use it to change a spell’s damage type, and even cast rituals faster. This is all stuff at level 2 by the way. At higher levels, you’re even able to forget spells to keep yourself from dying. That’s something else.

What do you think of these new subclasses?
