Dungeons & Lasers is a Solid 3D Modular Battle Map System
Dungeons & Lasers looks like a really cool option for Dungeons & Dragons or other RPG groups that wanted a more three-dimensional battle map. It will eventually be available in a Kickstarter campaign and the people at Dungeons & Lasers were kind enough to send me a sample set of tiles. Now, this is a modular system so that you can mix and match pieces to make your maps and it works well for the most part. I am relatively new to plastic models and the like and so it could be that I’m doing something wrong, but I had a hard time getting the pieces off the sprues. The connecting parts are fairly thick and angled in such a way that it made it a little difficult to cut with my side cutters or hobby knife. When the side cutters did work, they ended up a lot closer than I would’ve liked and left the white stress marks I was hoping to avoid. Hopefully painting the pieces will take care of that.
Other than that issue, I really like Dungeons & Lasers. The pieces are made well and feel nice in the hand. When they’re connected, it’s easy to separate them, but they’ll stay together without worries. If you want a 3D battle map, I would recommend Dungeons & Lasers depending on the price points.
I have included some pictures below, but it should be noted that since this is a review set it has two sides with one for the fantasy set and one for the sci-fi set. The final versions will not be doubled like this. I do wonder if this is why the sprues were so thick.
If you head over to the official site, you can sign up for their newsletter and they will inform you when the Kickstarter goes live. In addition, they are having a bonus mini that will be available for the first 48 hours of the campaign, so getting on that newsletter is vital if you want that. You can also follow Dungeons & Lasers on Facebook and Instagram for the latest details.
