Dwayne Johnson Calls His Character's VFX From THE MUMMY RETURNS "A Career F---ing Lowlight" While Still Appreciating It Launching His Career
Dwayne Johnson is a member of so many successful movie franchises these days, it’s easy to think of him as one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
But back in the early 2000s, he was still attempting to break into the world of acting, as he was known only for his professional wrestling career and a few small cameo roles in various TV shows.
So when he landed the role in the popular Brendan Fraser-starring sequel The Mummy Returns in 2001, he jumped at the chance to play the larger than life character The Scorpion King.
We all know now that the early VFX used in the film to transform him into the character has not aged well at all, and Johnson was asked what he thinks about it in a recent interview with Esquire, which they posted on their Instagram account. Johnson explained:
“There’s been a lot of conversation about this. The truth is, our guys worked so hard with the VFX to get this right, but I think, literally, they ran out of time.
“As funny as this is, and as funny looking as it is, it also actually launched my career. And this is a big deal. Supposed to be looking at my career highlights. This is like my career fucking lowlights.”
It’s a mess that the actor can laugh about now, while still giving the movie and its crew credit for the launch of his career. Both The Rock and VFX have come a very long way in the last 25 years, and action flicks are all the better for it.
