Dwayne Johnson Confirms JUMANJI 3 Will Start Filming This November
Dwayne Johnson is heading back into the wild world of Jumanji. Following his praised performance in Benny Safdie’s upcoming drama The Smashing Machine, the actor revealed that cameras will officially roll on Jumanji 3 this November.
In a new interview with Variety, Johnson confirmed the long-awaited sequel is finally moving forward and that it will see him reunite with his longtime partner-in-comedy Kevin Hart.
This comes not long after Johnson admitted he has been feeling boxed in by Hollywood expectations. The actor recently said he wants to shift his focus toward more challenging, gritty projects like The Smashing Machine, though he hasn’t forgotten the franchises that made him a global star.
Johnson explained, “The films that I made in the past, I love them… I’ll go back to making them again.”
Johnson first suited up as Dr. Xander “Smolder” Bravestone in 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which brought the classic Robin Williams film into the modern era. He returned in 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level, where he was joined once again by Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black.
The ensemble plays video game avatars inhabited by real-world players, creating a hilarious and action-packed twist on the fantasy adventure formula.
The road to Jumanji 3 has been anything but smooth. Development was repeatedly delayed due to the pandemic, with brief progress in 2021 before the project went quiet again. In 2024, Sony reassured fans the sequel was still alive and confirmed a December 2026 release date.
Plot details remain under wraps, but fans of The Next Level will remember its post-credits scene, which teased the game world bleeding into reality as wild animals roamed free. If that storyline continues, it will finally bring Dr. Smolder Bravestone, Mouse Finbar, Ruby Roundhouse, and Dr. Shelley Oberon into the real world for the first time.
Jumanji 3 is set to hit theaters on December 11, 2026.
