Dwayne Johnson Hated The BLACK ADAM Costume Until All The Muscle Padding Was Torn Out
Why in the world would anyone give Dwayne Johnson a suit with muscle padding in it? Dwayne Johnson is a solid rock of muscle and the fact that the costume designers of Black Adam gave him a costume with muscle padding is hilarious.
That’s what they did, though, and Johnson hated it! It wasn’t until after he had them tear out all of the unnecessary muscle padding that he was happy with the suit. During a recent interview with Total Film, Johnson talked about the costume, saying:
"These are the best costume-makers in the business, who have done all the most amazing costumes. They’re so talented. They come over to the house. I put it on. And I fucking hate this costume. Everything was padded. So they immediately start tearing and cutting and ripping. When I put that costume on the second time with no padding, just cut in a way where it was enhancing the work that I had put in – I felt..." He clicks his fingers and beams. "I’m Black Adam."
Johnson got in the best shape of his life for this role, so it makes sense that he wouldn’t want all that hard work to be covered up by silly muscle padding. Johnson went on to say:
"I wanted to come in not only in the best shape of my career, but also in the kind of shape that was befitting of an unstoppable supervillain who becomes an antihero. The easy version was I just continued on the same training regimen, not push myself, and find a Black Adam costume that covered my body up with some padded muscles in certain places, and no one will ever know. But I prefer to go the opposite way, and really come in in phenomenal shape and redesign a costume where I didn’t need padding."
It looks like the results speak for themselves. Johnson is looking badass in this costume!
Black Adam also stars Aldis Hodge (Underground, The Invisible Man), who plays Hawkman in the film, and he and Johnson are joined by Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I Love Before, Charlie's Angels) as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell (Trinkets, Euphoria) as Cyclone, and Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye, Mamma Mia!) as Doctor Fate, as well as Sarah Shahi (Person of Interest, The L Word), Marwan Kenzari (The Old Guard, Aladdin), and Uli Latukefu (Young Rock), who have been cast in unspecified roles.
Jaume Collet-Serra (Jungle Cruise) is directing Black Adam, from the most recent script, which was written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. Adam Sztykiel wrote the previous draft.
Black Adam will hit theaters on July 29th, 2022.
