Dwayne Johnson is Hoping to Start Production for BLACK ADAM in 2019

It’s been a while since we heard anything about Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam project. After all, he’s been a very busy man starring in almost every other movie lately. He was recently in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and he’s out promoting Rampage right now. However, during a recent interview with Yahoo, Johnson was asked about the status of the project and he seemed very optimistic.

The script came in, it’s great, we’re working on it. We’re very excited about it. If things come together in the way we anticipate them coming together, that feels like a 2019 movie in production.

It’s a challenging thing because when Marvel is doing such an incredible job of universe building and building out, and DC is doing a great job in finding the footing and tone of their movies – certainly with Wonder Woman, for example, I look forward to James Wan’s movie coming out with Aquaman – so Black Adam is this phenomenal opportunity for us to nail the tone and make sure he’s badass. Make sure that we’re serving the mythology properly. But then also making sure that we can have intrinsic DNA tied to a lot of other properties in DC. It’s not an easy thing to do, but I think we’re going to nail it.

Fans should rejoice since the movie has been in the works for quite a long time now. I do find it interesting, how Johnson says that DC has been doing great at finding their footing since I would completely disagree with him. I feel like they did well with Wonder Woman, but I feel like they haven’t quite found their footing on any of their movies. Hopefully Aquaman will show that they finally got things settled and then it and Shazam! will be incredible, but I think to say they’ve found their footing is a bit premature at this point. Of course, rumors are flying that Black Adam will appear as a cameo before his solo film with many believing that it will be in Suicide Squad 2. Some are speculating that he’ll cameo as early as Aquaman though.

Of course, the other elephant in the room besides the script is that no director has been named yet for the film. We know that Adam Sztykiel is writing the script and of course Johnson is starring, but I have yet to hear anything about a director for the film. Some are expecting the role to be filled by Rampage's Brad Peyton, but who would you like to see in the director's chair?

When do you think we’ll see Black Adam? Do you think it will finally start filming next year? Will Johnson be not busy long enough to get this one through?
