Dwayne Johnson May Reteam With SAN ANDREAS Director For RAMPAGE
We already knew that Dwayne Johnson is headlining a movie adaptation of the 1980s video game Rampage from writer Ryan Engle (Non-Stop). What we didn't know was who would direct, and now Deadline reports that New Line Cinema is in talks with San Andreas director Brad Peyton to bring the film to life. Say what you will about the quality of the films they've worked on together, but Johnson and Peyton are an impressive force when it comes to box office dollars. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and San Andreas (which is still in some theaters) have pulled in nearly $800 million, and those numbers are certainly going to be appealing to the accountants who assess a movie like Rampage (full of the same rubble and destruction of San Andreas) and make these kinds of approvals.
And while I was hoping Johnson would be playing one of the three monsters — a giant ape, giant dinosaur, or giant werewolf — it appears that won't be the case. Plot specifics are being kept under wraps, but Deadline's source says the movie will follow the three creatures "wreak[ing] havoc on major cities and landmarks across North America, with Johnson standing in their path."
Are you looking forward to the movie version of Rampage?
