Dwayne Johnson Will Battle More Earthquakes in SAN ANDREAS Sequel

Dwayne Johnson has a truly insane shooting schedule lined up for 2016. He's filming season 2 of HBO's Ballers, then moves straight into Baywatch, Fast & Furious 8, and his live-action adaptation of the video game Rampage. But he's not resting on his laurels: this man likes to work, and THR reports that he's going to face off against more earthquakes in a sequel to San Andreas.

Johnson will reunite with director Brad Peyton and stars Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario, and Paul Giamatti, while up-and-coming screenwriters Neil Widener and Gavin James will take over for Carlton Cuse in the script department. So what's the sequel going to be about?

Plot details for the new installment are being sheltered, but the sequel is expanding the disaster locales by going global, focusing on the infamous Ring of Fire. The ring circles the Pacific Ocean with fault lines and volcanoes and, according to scientists, is home to about 90 percent of the worlds' earthquakes.

So they're doing the typical sequel thing of taking the premise of the first movie and expanding it to a larger scale, which seems fitting — but clearly ridiculous — for this property. Are they going to go on vacation and get caught in a tsunami this time? I honestly wouldn't be surprised. But if they're going global, that will take them away from the San Andreas fault, meaning that calling it San Andreas 2 seems out of the question. How will the studio retain their name recognition on a franchise if they have to call this one Ring of Fire or something along those lines? Sounds like a conundrum to me.

What do you want to see happen in the sequel?
