Early KPOP DEMON HUNTERS Concept Art Reveals a Completely Different Visual Style for the Netflix Hit

Before KPop Demon Hunters became the colorful, high-energy animated hit that took Netflix by storm, it seems the movie looked very different. Some early concept art has resurfaced online, giving fans a look at a much edgier version of the film’s world and its demon-hunting K-pop idols.

Back in February 2024, VFX artist Matthew McDonald shared the artwork on Twitter, writing, "Extremely excited about the next project I get to work on…".

The image shows the trio of Hunter/x, which includes Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, from behind as they perform on stage in front of a massive crowd, their demon-slaying weapons cleverly hidden behind them.

Hovering above the stage, the sinister Honmoon demons peer through a glowing, colorful barrier. The girls sport sharper, more angular designs and distinctly different hairstyles from what we see in the final film.

The final version of KPop Demon Hunters follows Rumi, Mira, and Zoey voiced by Arden Cho, May Hong, and Ji-young Yoo, as they juggle life as chart-topping idols while secretly battling demonic forces threatening the world. Their voices are more than just a musical weapon; they’re the key to sealing away evil itself.

Since its release this past June, KPop Demon Hunters has absolutely dominated Netflix. It’s now the streamer’s biggest movie ever, surpassing Dwayne Johnson’s Red Notice by racking up an incredible 325.1 million views during its 91-day tracking window.

If you haven’t joined the hype yet, KPop Demon Hunters is streaming now on Netflix, and judging by this early concept art, it’s wild to imagine how different the movie could have looked.
