ECHO Leaked Details and Storyboard Art Reveal All The Subplots That Were Cut From The Show

Marvel’s Echo series went through a lot of changes before it was released as a five-episode series on Disney+. The series was going to be a lot different from the version that we saw, and a lot of details for those original plans have been revealed including how at one point, Maya Lopez's powers were going to be presented in a much different way.

As the series was reshaped, a lot was taken out and there were a good amount of reshoots, and by the end of the overhaul, a whole episode ended up being cut from the series.

This new information comes from scooper @CanWeGetToast, who not only shared more details on the cut scenes, but Ed Laroche shared some storyboard art as well. The details include a big focus on New York City's criminal gangs and The Kingpin's successor, Irina, who was possibly a new take on Iron Man villain Irina Tarasova.

It’s revealed that there was also a subplot about Biscuit's missing dog and a bigger focus on Maya Lopez's relationship with her cousin Bonnie.

It’s also explained that the flashbacks to Echo’s Choctaw ancestors would have been scattered throughout the series instead of being used as those cold openings. On top of that, Maya's powers were originally supposed to emerge gradually rather than all at once in the finale, which would’ve made a lot more sense.

The storyboard art confirms some of this and also reveals that Maya Lopez would have sported various face tattoos throughout the series, and gained some powers that would allow her to foresee her opponent's fight moves. This is a power that is in line with the version of the character in the comic.

As we previously shared, Echo was originally going to end with Maya returning to New York, which set the stage for her to play a role in Daredevil: Born Again.

While I liked Echo, there are some things in this earlier version of the series which might have made it better. You can read through all of the details below and let us know what you think!
