“It’s true what they say: Cops and women don’t mix. It’s like eating a spoonful of Drano; sure, it’ll clean you out, but it’ll leave you hollow inside.” - The Naked Gun

It looks like Paramount Pictures is developing a reboot of their hilarious '80s and '90s comedy franchise, The Naked Gun. It's been forever since I've seen any of those movies, but I remember laughing my ass off when I watched them. The original films were based on the 1982 ABC spoof series Police Squad!, which was cancelled after six episodes.

The studio has cast Ed Helms (The Hangover) in the lead role of Detective Frank Drebin, who was previously played by Leslie Nielsen. I guess if anyone could try to explicate that style of comedy, it would be Helms.

The studio has also hired Thomas Lennon and R. Ben Garant to write the script for the film. They are best known for writing the Night at the Museum and Reno 911 franchises. They also wrote and directed the hilarious comedy Hell Baby. They have been given the task of giving a new spin on the Drebin character.

These guys seem like they have the right comedy style to make this reboot work successfully. I think this franchise is in good hands with this creative team, and they could actually give us something extremely funny.
