Ed Skrein Replaces Rupert Friend in Zack Snyder's REBEL MOON Sci-Fi Action Film
Ed Skrein (Alita: Battle Angel, Deadpool) is replacing Rupert Friend (Obi-Wan Kenobi) in Zack Snyder’s highly anticipated sci-fi epic Rebel Moon for Netflix. According to the report, Friend ended up leaving the project due to scheduling conflicts.
The story is based on a Star Wars pitch that Lucasfilm rejected. It centers on a “peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius. They dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand against the Tyrant.”
The movie also stars Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Doona Bae, Djimon Hounsou, Ray Fisher, Jena Malone, Stuart Martin, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman, and Alfonso Herrera. Other recently announced cast members include Cleopatra Coleman (Dopesick), Fra Fee (Hawkeye), and Rhian Rees (Nope).
The project is going to be split into two epic features, and Snyder hoping to continue to build out the universe with more spinoffs and sequels. Snyder shared, “This is me growing up as an Akira Kurosawa fan, a Star Wars fan. It's my love of sci-fi and a giant adventure. My hope is that this also becomes a massive IP and a universe that can be built out."
I’m really hoping that Rebel Moon turns out to be an awesome film! We know that the movie is going to be visually impressive, we just have to wait and see if the script is solid.
