Trailer for Eddie Izzard's Thriller Remake DOCTOR JEKYLL Based on the Classic Tale
A trailer has been released for the latest version of the classic tale, Doctor Jekyll, starring Eddie Izzard. I use Eddie in the title of the article, as that’s the name being used in promotion of the film, but would like to note that Izzard has come out and said that her preferred name is Suzy, though Eddie is acceptable. Scott Chambers co-stars in the film alongside Lindsay Duncan, Jonathan Hyde and Simon Callow.
Joe Stephenson directed the pic from a script written by Dan Kelly-Mulhern. The synopsis for the remake says, “Doctor Jekyll focuses on a reclusive Nina Jekyll finding friendship with her newly hired help, Rob, played by rising star Scott Chambers, who must work together to prevent Hyde from destroying her life.”
Stephenson recently told Fangoria of the story, “There’ve been over 100 cinematic adaptations of Stevenson’s novella, but there has never been a trans Dr. Jekyll. There seem to be some assumptions that because Nina is a trans character, we are somehow going to make it about gender. That is not the case; the themes of our film are true to the original work.”
Check out the trailer below, and watch Doctor Jekyll in theaters on October 27th.
