Edgar Wright Out as ANT-MAN Director

In a stunning turn of events, Variety is reporting that Edgar Wright is no longer directing Marvel’s Ant-Man. The studio has already replaced him, but has declined to say with whom. The split was “due to differences in their vision of the film,” Marvel and the director said in a statement. Marvel would like to assure you that the change in directors will not affect the film’s release date, set for July, 17, 2015.

This is really shocking. Wright was hired by the studio in April 2006. That is 8 years of work he has put into this movie. It seems like it would take a lot to walk away from that. Wright’s script — co-written by Joe Cornish — has gone through several rounds of revisions as the Marvel Cinematic Universe has expanded, but things seemed to be on the right track recently as they have cast the principal roles. Things are getting curiouser and curiouser…
