Elektra is a Sociopath in DAREDEVIL Season 2

When it comes to Daredevil Season 2 we’ve mostly heard about The Punisher and what he’ll be bringing to Hell’s Kitchen in the next chapter of Daredevil’s story. Elektra is also set to play a big role in the show, but the interest in her character doesn’t seem as high as Punisher.

In the comics, Elektra is a deadly assassin and one of Daredevil’s main love interests. During her run, she has been both a villain and an ally. What version of the character will we see in the upcoming series? Well, actress Elodie Yung sheds some light on her character during a recent interview at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. She explains:

"[W]hat I tried to capture by reading the comics is I wanted to keep the coldness and we had a conversation - that Elektra has - and we conversations at length with Doug [Petrie] and Marco [Ramirez] (showrunners of Daredevil).
"We think Elektra is, kind of, a sociopath, you know? This world is a game for me - it’s like a chess game - and what motivates her is what she wants. She will use anything she needs to use to get to her goal and if she needs to kill people, she would, you know? She has this coldness and this sociopath in her and I tried to keep that, really."

It may sound like there is going to be a heavy villainous tone to her character in the series, but maybe not completely. The actress goes on to say that they are also playing with Elektra’s different layers.

"[O]n the other hand, we wanted to create a character with different layers and, I think, Elektra isn’t a bad person, she’s not a good person. She’s a person with different traits, with layers and she’s seeking for who she is, so really, in this season, there’s an arc to her story and, hopefully, she will find out who she is really by the end of it."

We also learn that the character's costume will come together organically. In an interview with showrunner Doug Petrie, he said:

"We love the comics - we're fans - but, we wanted Elektra's costume to be reasonable for a martial artist and she's also a little bit of a stylist. There's definitely a costume, but it needs to happen organically like we saw on Daredevil."

We’ll get to see this new version of Elektra in action when Daredevil hits Netflix on March 18th. I have no doubt that it will be a better version than the one Jennifer Garner gave us.

Here’s the synopsis for the second season of Daredevil:

Just when Matt thinks he is bringing order back to the city, new forces are rising in Hell’s Kitchen. Now the Man Without Fear must take on a new adversary in Frank Castle and face an old flame – Elektra Natchios. Bigger problems emerge when Frank Castle, a man looking for vengeance, is reborn as The Punisher, a man who takes justice into his own hands in Matt’s neighborhood. Meanwhile, Matt must balance his duty to his community as a lawyer and his dangerous life as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, facing a life-altering choice that forces him to truly understand what it means to be a hero.
