Eli Roth Is Returning to Direct a Sequel to His Holiday Horror Film THANKSGIVING
Eli Roth has confirmed that he’s directing a sequel to his recently released holiday horror film Thanksgiving. I was actually really surprised by the reception of the first film; it currently has a 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and it made $30 million worldwide on its opening weekend.
I personally didn’t like the movie. While I enjoy watching horror movies, Thanksgiving just didn’t do it for me with its weak script and laughably bad dialogue. Maybe that was the point? To make a bad horror movie? I don’t know, maybe I missed something because so many other people seemed to enjoy it.
But, hey! Good for Roth! He gets to make a sequel and the people who enjoy the first film will get to watch the “John Carver" killer embark on a whole new killing brutal spree.
Roth will be working on the script with Jeff Rendall, and the sequel is expected to be released in theaters in 2025.
The first movie is based on the faux trailer that Roth directed for the 2017 film Grindhouse. The story centers on a killer who “makes his own carving board out of the inhabitants of a Massachusetts town that makes a big annual fuss over the annual turkey day.”
The cast includes Addison Rae (He’s All That) in the lead role, Patrick Dempsey, Jalen Thomas Brooks (Walker), Milo Manheim (Zombies), Nell Verlaque (Big Shot), Gina Gershon (Chucky), Tim Dillon and Rick Hoffman (Hostel).
What did you think about Thanksgiving? Are you excited to learn there’s a sequel coming?
