Elijah Wood and Tobey Maguire Say They Each Get Mistaken For Each Other's Most Famous Roles: Spider-Man & Frodo

Actors Elijah Wood and Tobey Maguire have a lot in common. Each of them began their careers as kids in 1989- Maguire as a young teen and Wood as an 8 year old.

They went on to star in many films and TV spots in the 90s, with each of their careers hitting new heights in 2001, when Wood started his run as Frodo Baggins in the trilogy The Lord of The Rings, and Maguire took on the role of Peter Parker in the Spider-Man trilogy.

While the parallels are significant, they seem to have intersected for the actors, as they both have had fan encounters where they are recognized for each other.

Wood recently explained on the HappySadConfused podcast, "Most recently I think it was actually Tobey Maguire. Which does still happen, and it's always for Spider-Man. It's not for any of Tobey's other work. It's just 'Hey, Spider-Man!' Nope. Nope. Nope. I won't correct people."

And Maguire has had similar encounters, as he said in a Reddit AMA, "No joke, I once signed an autograph as Elijah Wood because the fan was so excited. I didn't want to disappoint her by telling her I wasn't Elijah."

I get that they both have brown hair and blue eyes, but that’s where the comparison ends. They actually look pretty different side by side. But I grew up watching tons of each of their films, so maybe to a non-film buff, it would be harder to differentiate.
