Elijah Wood Doesn't Think Peter Jackson's THE LORD OF THE RINGS Trilogy Would Get Made The Same Way Again

I’ve often wondered how The Lord of the Rings trilogy might have been in this day and age. I just don’t think it would have been the same. I think when those original films got made it was a perfect storm, and it happened at the right time, with the right talent. I think social media and with the way fans are today, things would have also been very different.

Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood doesn't think Peter Jackson's trilogy would get made in the same way today. He talks about how filmmakers are being given less creative freedom and also how the film would have been impacted by the leaks and rumors from film sets.

During an interview with The New York Times, Wood said, "There was a great sense of a lack of oversight. Peter and the larger team were allowed to make the movies the way that they wanted to make them without much outside perspective.”

He went on to add, "That doesn’t mean the studio wasn’t afraid or invested. They knew the risk of making these films back to back. I don’t know if he would be able to make them in the same way now. Look, the internet’s different too. There was less scrutiny on the films. There was less known about them. We were able to make the movies in a bubble. We had quaint problems, like there would be some photographers up on a hill, but it was pretty minor. I don’t know if that would be possible now. Now the world is online and there’s a great deal of access afforded to pretty much anybody about anything."

Yeah, I think we can all just be grateful the films got made when they did under the right circumstances. These films are, in my opinion, the greatest films that have ever been made. We’ll never see anything like them again.
