Elizabeth Banks Has Joined the Cast of the FX Limited Series MRS. AMERICA

Elizabeth Banks has joined the cast of the upcoming limited series at FX entitled Mrs. America, a true historical drama that takes place in the 1970s dealing with American politics, specifically women’s rights. The rest of the cast is stellar, and includes Cate Blanchett, Uzo Aduba, Rose Byrne, Kayli Carter, Ari Graynor, Melanie Lynskey, James Marsden, Margo Martindale, Sarah Paulson, John Slattery, Jeanne Tripplehorn, and Tracey Ullman. Here’s the synopsis courtesy of Variety:

The series tells the story of the movement to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), and the unexpected backlash led by a conservative woman named Phyllis Schlafly, played by Cate Blanchett. Banks will play Jill Ruckelshaus, a pro-choice, socially progressive Republican who was appointed by President Ford to advance women’s rights and fought to keep the Republican Party from being taken over by Phyllis Schlafly and the Religious Right.

This sounds interesting and relevant and like one of those stories that you feel like you should have heard about by now, but maybe haven’t. The series is being written and executive produced by Dahvi Waller, who has written for Mad Men and Halt and Catch Fire among others, with the first two episodes being directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who wrote and directed Captain Marvel.
