Elizabeth Olsen Says She Knows "Nothing" About Scarlet Witch's Future in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY & SECRET WARS
Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch has been an integral part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since her introduction over a decade ago. But, aside from some inconsequential blips in the animated Marvel series What If…? and Marvel Zombies, we haven’t seen the Scarlet Witch since her 2022 starring role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
That film ended with Wanda sacrificing herself by destroying Mount Wundagore and all copies of the Darkhold across the multiverse, causing the castle she was in to collapse upon her.
While this seems like a definitive fate, we didn’t actually see her die, and it’s widely assumed that she will make her return at some point. With the upcoming huge event ensemble films Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars headed our way, it seems like the perfect time for her to reemerge… so what are the odds?
Olsen made an appearance at C2E2 recently, where she was asked about her future in the MCU and she said she didn’t know much. “I know nothing,” Olsen said when asked about what she knew about Doomsday. “I know about VisionQuest because I’ve seen Paul [Bettany] in the last six months and I know nothing about any of it.”
When asked about Secret Wars, Olsen said, “Is that what happens after this day? I’m not kidding.” Marvel actors are known to be sworn to secrecy and have lied about their involvement in the MCU, and Olsen maintained she was “not kidding,” later adding, “I don’t know what’s going on. It’s safer for me to not know anything because then I can’t make a mistake in a situation like this. I rather know nothing.”
Olsen understands that any word she says can be taken out of context and blown up into something untrue. Although she didn’t reveal if she was involved in future installments of the MCU, Olsen did say that when she knows she’s part of a storyline, she has “offered up things I would like to do,” carefully noting, “It’s been a minute since I’ve had those types of conversations.”
“My whole thing is if I can serve a story and help, and we can use this character to make that story better instead of just being thrown in there just for a secret, then I would be so excited to do that,” she said. “I just want to be of service to telling these stories better each time.”
So either Olsen is flexing her incredible acting skills, or she really knows nothing. I am hoping she’s just pulling a fast one on us, as I’d love to see her return, and I’d love a few surprises when I see these films, but as always we will just have to wait and see.
Doomsday is set to be released in theatres on December 18, 2026 with Secret Wars following on December 17, 2027.
