Elizabeth Olsen Talks About the Hardest Part of Filming DOCTOR STRANGE 2 and Whether She's Open to Returning
Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch actress Elizabeth Olsen has stayed pretty tight-lipped about her role in the most recent MCU pic, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Erring on the side of caution, she has told many interviewers that she wasn’t even in the movie much, which was absolutely not true. She played a significant role, and it left her fate in a precarious state. Before we move ahead, I’m going to be getting into spoilers, so if you haven’t seen the movie, this is your final warning.
Olsen went full on Scarlet Witch at the end of WandaVision, and she picked right up where she left off in Multiverse of Madness. This was the darkest the character had gotten, and in an interview with Variety, Olsen talked about the hardest part of playing this tough character:
“I think the hardest thing was — I know we’re doing this interview after it’s released, but I still get anxious talking about it without spoilers. But there’s a moment where I have to snap at people I love, and that was a difficult scene. One of the people that I love — the little people that I love — they were throwing things at me in the scene, and accidentally smacked my face really hard. And that was the best reaction. And I felt so bad that I used it as the actor and let it inform how I responded to these people that I love. Because they were terrified after. It really was something I did not enjoy at all, but I knew it’d be good for the scene.”
Additionally, some of the hardest scenes for fans to watch were of Olsen taking down some of the surprise characters that joined the film. Olsen touched on that, saying:
“I — I was — I was also supposed to kill more. I had a hard time with it. I was like, these are human beings and Wanda is okay with ending their lives? But I just had to buckle down and think all these people are in her way and she’s warned Doctor Strange not to get in her way. And he did. He didn’t listen. And so I just had to go from that point of view.”
When asked about whether we will see Wanda again after her difficult ending in that movie, Olsen said:
“It’s weird that I’m expecting to return but no one’s told me I’m doing anything! But in my mind, I’m just making the assumption that they’ll have me again. I don’t know to what capacity, but I hope I’m back. I hope there’s also more fun to be had in something different. Where do we go? I feel like we’ve done so much with her. It’s been really a wild couple years with her.”
I assume that Wanda would have been killed off for good if they didn’t want to have her back in any capacity. I was impressed with her story arc, and I hope to see her back. What do you think Wanda’s future looks like? Would you like to see her return in any capacity?
