Ellen Page in Talks to Star in FLATLINERS Remake
The remake of Joel Schumacher's classic 1990 film Flatliners has been in development for years. In 2011, Ben Ripley (Source Code) came on board to write a script for it. Then in 2013, Swedish director Niels Arden Oplev (Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) jumped on to helm the project. It's now 2015, and it looks like the remake has found its first star.
According to Variety, Ellen Page (X-Men) is currently in talks to take on a lead role in the movie. There's no word on who exactly she will be playing in the film. The original movie had a great cast that included Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin, and Kiefer Sutherland. Page really isn't in the same league as any of those actors, but this next version of the film will be for a new generation of audiences.
Flatliners is really a great flick, and I absolutely loved the concept. The story follows a group of friends and colleagues who subject themselves to near-death experiences in order to see what the afterlife is like. After going through their initial experience, the members of the group are haunted by physical manifestations of their childhood sins. They aren't sure if what they are facing is real or a hallucination.
I've never been too fond of the idea of this movie being remade because the original is such a damn good movie. But it doesn't look like there's anything that's going to stop it from being made. Maybe this team of talent will give us something decent, though.
