Ellen Page to Star in Unique Zombie Thriller Called THE THIRD WAVE
Ellen Page will be taking on the lead role in a new zombie thriller called The Third Wave. The story has a unique twist in the zombie genre as it focuses on humans who have been transformed into zombies and then cured.
THR says that the story “is set in a time after a virus that transformed humans into zombie-like monsters has been cured. But many of the once-infected humans are now shunned by society and even their families, creating social unrest that leads to militant government interference.”
About 8 or 9 years ago, GeekTyrant co-founder Free Reyes and myself came up with the exact same concept, except there were more layers to it than this. While pitching the idea we were told that the zombie genre was dead. As you all know, that's not the case at all.
The movie is being directed by David Freyne, who will be making his feature film directorial debut. Freyne also wrote the film and it was put into production after a proof of concept short film he made called The First Wave got noticed. In a statement about the film, Page says:
"The Third Wave brings an entire new perspective to the zombie genre, which I love. David Freyne truly shifts his lens on society's role in the apocalyptic world. I'm so grateful for this opportunity to share his thoughtful approach to horror with audiences."
In the Heart of the Sea actor Sam Keeley is also set to star alongside Page in the film. The movie is set to start shooting in Ireland in late 2016.
