Ellen Pompeo Will Star in Bizarre True Crime Adoption Series for Hulu; Will Have Reduced Role on GREY'S ANATOMY

Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 is set to premiere this October, and one of the only remaining cast members that’s still around from the first season is Meredith Grey, the namesake of the show. But her story will pull away a bit, and the series focus more on the other cast. She will still appear in the series, but in a limited capacity.

The actress who plays Grey, Ellen Pompeo, has had small roles in other projects since the start of the show in 2005, but she is now branching out to a completely new series at Hulu. The untitled series will be based on the bizarre true crime adoption story about a Midwestern couple who “adopts what they believe is an 8-year-old girl with a rare form of dwarfism. But as they begin to raise her alongside their three biological children, they slowly start to believe she may not be who she says she is. As they question her story, they’re confronted with hard questions of their own about the lengths they’re willing to go to defend themselves, falling into a battle that’s fought in the tabloids, the courtroom, and ultimately their marriage.”

Hulu has given the series an eight-episode order. Katie Robbins (The Affair, The Last Tycoon) is writing and executive producing, with Pompeo set to executive produce under her Calamity Jane production banner. Erin Levy (Mad Men, Counterpart) will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Laura Holstein of Calamity Jane will also executive produce along with Mike Epps, Dan Spilo, Niles Kirchner, and Andrew Stearn.

I remember hearing about this crazy story when it happened, and I am excited to hear the full story with all the details in the series.
