Last year, Disney+ announced that fans of the film series The Mighty Ducks are getting a treat in the form of a new original series based on the movies at the streamer. The last news we heard of the show was that Emilio Estevez is returning to the role of Coach Gordon Bombay in the series, and is joining Lauren Graham and Brady Noon, as well as Swayam Bhatia, Taegen Burns, Julee Cerda, Bella Higginbotham, Luke Islam, Kiefer O’Reilly, Maxwell Simkins and De’Jon Watts in the cast.

Now we have learned that Estevez will also be directing one of the episodes of the series as well. The actor has directed a handful of solid projects including the ‘80s film Men at Work, the Robert F. Kennedy epic Bobby, and episodes of series like Cold Case, CSI: New York, and Numb3rs.

Here’s the show’s previously released synopsis:

The series is set in present-day Minnesota, where the Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan (Noon) is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom, Alex (Graham), set out to build their own ragtag team of misfits to challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of competitive youth sports.

I am looking forward to this project so much! I loved these movies so much as a kid and will still never turn one down that comes on TV. My kids love them too, and I always look forward to a movie or show that we can enjoy together. The Mighty Ducks series is set to hit Disney+ sometime in 2021.
