Emily Blunt in Talks to Star in Steven Spielberg's Next Summer Blockbuster at Universal Due to Hit Screens in 2026

Oscar-nominated actress Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer, The Fall Guy) is in talks with one of Hollywood’s favorite directors, Steven Spielberg, to see if she will lead his next summer blockbuster at Universal.

The untitled Amblin project is described as a two-hander, so Blunt would be playing one of the two leads in the film. Plot details have been kept under lock and key, but it will involve UFOs.

Based on a story by Spielberg, the film has longtime Spielberg collaborator David Koepp penning the script, with Kristie Macosko Krieger producing.

Universal has dated the film for May 15, 2026, landing it in the summer tentpole zone Spielberg practically created with films like Jaws and Raiders of the Lost Ark. It would mark Spielberg’s fist major summer release in quite some time.

Blunt is currently shooting A24’s The Smashing Machine opposite Dwayne Johnson with Benny Safdie directing. She is also signed on to return to the Disney sequel Jungle Cruise 2, which is currently in development.
