Emma Roberts To Produce a Vampire Drama Series For Netflix Titled FIRST KILL
Netflix is developing a YA vampire drama series titled First Kill with Emma Roberts set to executive produce. The project is based on a short story of the same name by Victoria “V.E.” Schwab and it was published in the Imprint story collection “Vampire Never Get Old: Tales with Fresh Bite” back in September.
In the series, “when it’s time for teenage vampire Juliette to make her first kill so she can take her place among a powerful vampire family, she sets her sights on a new girl in town named Calliope. But much to Juliette’s surprise, Calliope is a vampire hunter, from a family of celebrated slayers. Both find that the other won’t be so easy to kill and, unfortunately, way too easy to fall for.”
So, a vampire and vampire hunter fall in love. Hmmm, where have I seen that plot play out before? Schwab is the creator of the series and will also serve as co-writer and executive producer. Felicia D. Henderson will also co-write, executive produce, and be the showrunner.
According to the report, nearly two dozen other groups were trying to get their hands on the rights to the story, but Roberts’ production company beat them out.
While the plot has some similarities to Buffy The Vampire Slayer, I’m sure that series will deliver a very different story. At least I hope that it does!
