Emma Stone's Live-Action Cruella De Vil Movie Finds a Director
Disney is ready to move forward with their live-action Cruella De Vil movie as they are going to hire Mozart of the Jungle co-creator and theater director Alex Timbers to helm the project. The movie is called Cruella, and Emma Stone is set to play the title character.
The movie will give fans an origin story of the classic villain introduced in Disney’s 1961 animated classic 101 Dalmatians, in which she's obsessed with capturing the dalmatians. The new film is said to take place in the 1980s. Glenn Close played the villain in the 1996 live-action John Hughes-produced movie.
I think Stone is such a great choice to play this character, and it'll be fun to see how she brings her to life. I'm not really familiar with Timber's work, but the guy obviously had a successful pitch meeting with Disney and managed to land the gig with his vision.
Cruella is described as having both "strong fashion and music sensibilities," and the report says that it's "something that seems to be a natural fit for Timbers." He has directed the stage play Peter and the Star Catcher, worked on The Pee-Wee Herman Show, and is directing a Broadway musical adaptation of Rocky.
