Emotional and Uplifting Trailer For DEAR EDWARD From The Producers of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS and PARENTHOOD

Apple TV+ has released a new trailer for Dear Edward and it comes from the producer of Friday Night Lights and Parenthood, Jason Katims. He’s been able to put together some great projects that have moved audiences to tears, and it looks like he’s doing that all over again with this new series.

Dear Edward is based on the 2020 Ann Napolitano novel of the same name and the movie is described as “a heartbreaking, life-affirming, and uplifting story about survival, resilience, connection, and the examination of that which makes us human.”

According to a New York Times profile of the author, the book is inspired by the harrowing true story of a young Dutch boy who was the only survivor of the crash of Afriqiyah Airways Flight 771 in Libya in 2010. “Napolitano's story imagines the aftermath of a similar story, in which Edward is the only person to walk away from a plane crash.”

It’s explained that "as Edward and a diverse ensemble of others affected by the tragedy try to make sense of life after the crash, unexpected friendships, romances and communities are formed." The series stars Connie Britton, Taylor Schilling, Colin O'Brien, Amy Forsyth, Eva Ariel Binder, Brittany S. HallIdris Debrand, Carter Hudson, Maxwell Jenkins, Jenna Qureshi, Audrey Corsa, Anna Uzele, Ivan Shaw and Dario Ladani Sanchez.

Katims talked about trying not to cry while the series was being edited: “The embarrassing thing for me has been being in editing rooms, watching cuts of the show and starting to feel emotional in front of the editor and then I try to not cry, because it’s ridiculous to cry in front of [an editor] over words that you wrote. So I’m trying not to cry, and in trying not to cry, then these noises come out…that’s happened to me quite a bit.”

Here’s the description from the book:

One summer morning, twelve-year-old Edward Adler, his beloved older brother, his parents, and 183 other passengers board a flight in Newark headed for Los Angeles. Among them is a Wall Street wunderkind, a young woman coming to terms with an unexpected pregnancy, an injured vet returning from Afghanistan, a septuagenarian business tycoon, and a free-spirited woman running away from her controlling husband. And then, tragically, the plane crashes. Edward is the sole survivor.

Edward's story captures the attention of the nation, but he struggles to find a place for himself in a world without his family. He continues to feel that a piece of him has been left in the sky, forever tied to the plane and all of his fellow passengers. But then he makes an unexpected discovery--one that will lead him to the answers of some of life's most profound questions: When you've lost everything, how do find yourself? How do you discover your purpose? What does it mean not just to survive, but to truly live?

The first three episodes of Dear Edward will premiere on Apple TV+ on Friday, February 3, 2023.
