Enjoy A New Aesthetic With The WINGSPAN FAN ART PACK

Along with the many expansions of Wingspan and the new game Wyrmspan, it is hard to imagine any more content for this board game series/style. However, Stonemaier has recently put out a new set of cards for Wingspan that uses alternative art for various cards made by fans. While a lot of the art is quite beautiful and really unique, the set itself seems oddly arbitrary and extremely niche.

The set includes 300 cards that will replace current cards from different Wingspan expansions. This means that players would have to go through and remove each matching bird card and replace it with the new art card.

This was extremely tedious and I would rather have had an alternative art card set for just the base game or other specific expansions instead of random cards from all the sets or alternative art for all of them.

Looking at the wide breadth of art, unique styles, some sideways art for cards that are turned horizontally, and images that take up the entire entire card, it is a gorgeous addition to the game overall.

I was impressed with how many there were to begin with because these are all fanart creations that include a replacement text at the bottom of the cards describing a bit about the artist or something else fun. Also, it is pretty amazing to see the various mediums of art.

The styles include pencil drawings, paintings, woodwork, crochet, children’s art, watercolor and more to high grade, professional art. I was genuinely impressed with the art and love seeing them while playing the game.

With that being said, this set of alternative art cards seems to be in a weird spot. Players who own all the expansions can get this and trade out the alternative art pieces (which is terribly tedious), but then you’re left with a stack of useless cards and the new cards add nothing to the actual gameplay.

It also doesn’t come with its own baseline Wingspan game components, so it can’t be a standalone purchase. Also, because it is a card from all sets, people can gain random cards from other sets that they don’t actually own yet.

This all culminates in trying to find a real reason to own this, because it is like an aesthetic addition that is far more involved and confusing then it needs to be. Too much for the casual players, and not enough for the avid fans. However, the product itself is pretty awesome and is truly beautiful.

I just see this appealing to specific fans of Wingspan that are looking to shake things up at a very particular level.
