Eric Kripke Opens Up About THE BOYS Season 5 Finale and if Those Characters Will Return for Spin-offs

The Boys is heading toward its explosive finale, and showrunner Eric Kripke has finally opened up about what fans can expect when the series returns for its fifth and final season on Prime Video.

While this will mark the end of the main story, the twisted superhero universe Kripke built isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

The upcoming Season 5 will officially close out the core storyline, but spinoffs like Vought Rising and The Boys: Mexico are already keeping the world alive. The former is currently in production, while the latter remains in development. Gen V hasn’t yet been renewed for a third season, and Diabolical has been quietly canceled.

In a recent interview with Variety, Kripke teased how he plans to bring The Boys saga to a meaningful end.

"I would say we’re trying to land the plane on, really, the primary concerns of 'The Boys, which are Butcher vs. Homelander; the love story of Hughie and Annie; the fraught big brother/little brother relationship of Butcher and Hughie — all the things that 'The Boys' are about, we’re trying to bring to a conclusion in a surprising and emotional way."

Fans of Kripke’s work on Supernatural will remember that he originally wanted that series to wrap after five seasons too, and it’s clear he’s bringing that same focused vision to The Boys.

As for the franchise’s future, Kripke confirmed that The Boys: Mexico is “still in the works” and shared a few details about its progress.

"Gareth [Dunnet-Alcocer], who’s an amazing writer, is writing drafts right now. It’s in development. I think it’s hilarious. But we’ll see, it’s going through the bumpy rapids of development. It would take place at some point after Season 5 of 'The Boys.'"

Naturally, one big question fans have is whether characters from The Boys could appear in these new shows. Kripke didn’t close the door on that idea.

"Yes, that would be the hope, that there’s certain characters that we could cross over into 'The Boys' Mexico [spinoff]. But we’ll see."

While the main story may be wrapping up, this universe still has a lot of untapped potential, and it will be interesting to see how it continues to expand.

Created by Eric Kripke and based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys has grown far beyond its source material, often taking the story in wild new directions.

The final season stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Nathan Mitchell, Colby Minifie, Cameron Crovetti, Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jensen Ackles, and Daveed Diggs.

The Boys returns to Prime Video in 2026.
