ESPN's 30 FOR 30 Doc Series Explores The Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence Fight in THE KARATE KID
The Karate Kid has seen a rise in popularity thanks to the hit YouTube series Cobra Kai, which is about to start its second season. As a way to cash in on the popularity and promote the upcoming season, ESPN’s doc series 30 For 30 has released an episode that puts the focus on the legendary fight between Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) at the All-Valley Tournament.
When you think about 1984, you’re thinking about the fight between Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence. It was the biggest event of the year. It was the fight that’s gone down in history as both one of the dirtiest moments in sports history and the greatest comeback in fighting. Whichever side you land on, people are still talking about the All Valley Karate Championship 35 years later.
You’ll see some familiar ESPN commentators in the video such as Ryan Smith, Nicole Briscoe, Steve Levy, Randy Scott, and Chris Cotter providing commentary on the fight. Macchio and Zabka also show up in-character as Daniel and Johnny, reliving the finals of the tournament. The video also features some of the new young cast members of the series.
