ETERNALS Producer Says a Sequel Isn't Necessarily in the Stars for This Particular Film
Marvel’s Eternals is hitting theaters this weekend, bringing in a whole new crew of MCU characters for fans to follow throughout the next phase. It feels like this could be another Avengers-type film setup, lining up a story arc that could play out over several films, but that is not necessarily the case according to Marvel producer Nate Moore.
In a recent interview with The Toronto Sun, the Eternals producer talked about the prospect of an Eternals sequel. Moore said that while it’s not out of question, it’s not something that is 100% guaranteed:
“It’s not something that is a must-have. Obviously, we have ideas of where we could go, but there isn’t a hard and fast rule where we have to have three of these things and this is the first.”
I’m sure this will have a lot to do with how the movie is received by fans and moviegoers. It currently has a bad Rotten Tomatoes score, but it hasn’t even hit theaters yet, and I know that most of us are waiting to see for ourselves. Fan opinion will probably steer a lot of the decision as to whether we see these characters again in future films, or another sequel altogether.
Here’s the film’s synopsis:
“Marvel Studios’ “Eternals” welcomes an exciting new team of Super Heroes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The epic story, spanning thousands of years, features a group of immortal heroes forced out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s oldest enemy, The Deviants. The outstanding ensemble cast includes Richard Madden as the all-powerful Ikaris, Gemma Chan as humankind-loving Sersi, Kumail Nanjiani as cosmic-powered Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as the super-fast Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as the intelligent inventor Phastos, Salma Hayek as the wise and spiritual leader Ajak, Lia McHugh as the eternally young, old-soul Sprite, Don Lee as the powerful Gilgamesh, Barry Keoghan as aloof loner Druig, and Angelina Jolie as the fierce warrior Thena. Kit Harington plays Dane Whitman.”
Eternals hits theaters this Friday. What do you think or hope the future will be for the Eternals characters?
