ETERNALS Star Kumail Nanjiani Reveals The Main Characters Were Sent To Earth "Thousands of Years Ago"
Eternals star Kumail Nanjiani has some more to say about his upcoming Marvel movie. During a recent podcast that he was a guest on, the actor shared some information on the film and teased what Marvel fans can look forward to seeing.
Marvel has released very little information on this movie, so anything we get at this point is appreciated. Here, Nanjiani confirms that the Eternals were sent to Earth thousands of years ago:
"We were sent to Earth thousands of years ago to protect Earth from these monsters, the Deviants, a lot of it takes place in the present day. By this point, we've been on Earth for a long time.”
In the comics, The Eternals were sent to Earth 35,000 years ago by the Celestials to protect humankind from the Deviants. The director, Chloé Zhao, previously explained, “It’s about this group of incredible immortals, but through their journey, we really get to explore what it means to be human and humanity on our time on this planet.”
It’s also explained in a description for the film that following the events of Avengers: Endgame, “an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind's most ancient enemy, The Deviants.”
The actor went on to tease a Bollywood dance number in Eternals, and he also praised the diversity of director Chloé Zhao's film saying:
"I remember the first time I went to rehearsal I walked in and there were all these South Asian people...I was so moved immediately. I was like, 'Oh my God, we went from none of us [in the Marvel Cinematic Universe] to so many in one scene."
Nanjiani previously shared his excitement for the movie and the epicness of it, saying:
"It's really, really an epic. And it's really such a science-fiction story. It's a superhero story, but in some ways, it's the most sci-fi of all the Marvel movies and it's the most epic of all the Marvel movies. And the story spans thousands of years. So it's really not like any of the other Marvel movies."
The excitement for this movie seems low and I think it’s because no one really knows what to expect. Once Marvel shares the first trailer, though, showing us what exactly they’ve got cooking, then that will change, and excitement will explode.
Eternals premieres in theaters on November 6th.
