Ethan Hawke Is Still Jonesing Big Time for a Role in Any STAR WARS Film or Series
Four time Oscar-nominated actor Ethan Hawke (Training Day, Boyhood) has been talking about his longing to be in a Star Wars film for several years now. It all started back in 2014 during an appearance on Late Night With Conan O’Brien, when Hawke launched a public plea to join the galaxy far, far away ahead of the release of JJ Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. When that didn’t pan out, Hawke returned to Conan four years later, and said he’d be more than happy to play a Jedi, a villain, or even Wookiee—just so long as it meant he could star in a Star Wars movie.
He praised the 2018 film, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and said he was prepared to audition for any part the executives saw fit. Yet, nothing came together for the brilliant actor.
In a recent interview with Screen Rant in which he was promoting his recent film, The Black Phone, and he was asked about his longing for a Star Wars role that still hasn’t panned out. He responded:
“Isn't it amazing? I mean, I did a hard public pitch! I know, and I see all these great people in these things and I could have played that part. I could have played that part. I guess somebody up there doesn't like me.”
He then took a more optimistic stance, saying:
“I think they've got something-- what I make myself feel better is I think they've got something really good in mind.”
He went on to say how much he’s enjoying the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, and it seemed like he still has a lot of hope in his future in the franchise. This year at Star Wars Celebration, many new projects were announced that he may have the opportunity to join, including Skeleton Crew, The Acolyte, future seasons of The Mandalorian, as well as the Lando series.
I would bet that Hawke will get the perfect role eventually. The Star Wars universe is ever-expanding, and he is a fantastic actor. What Star Wars property would you like to see Hawke become a part of?
